Donvale Outdoor Living Design: Pool, Pavilion & Play Spaces

Croydon North

Designed for a growing family of eight, this contemporary Donvale pool and landscape design was created to improve functionality, connection, and outdoor living across the property. The design balances large-scale entertaining with practical family spaces, integrating a custom swimming pool and spa, outdoor pavilion, play zones, and layered landscape areas into one cohesive backyard environment.

The project features a large concrete pool with integrated spa, pavilion-style alfresco with outdoor kitchen, retractable pergola structure, limestone paving, synthetic turf play areas, and tiered landscaping designed to better connect the home to the tennis court below. New stairs, retaining, screening, and decking help improve flow and usability across the sloping site while creating multiple entertaining and relaxation zones for both adults and children.

Designed with longevity in mind, the outdoor pavilion was planned to function initially as a pool house while allowing flexibility for conversion into a future self-contained studio.

Set across the rolling landscape of Croydon, this project was designed as a refined modern rural retreat, balancing resort-style entertaining, productive gardens, and relaxed family living within a cohesive landscape experience.The design embraces a timeless farmhouse-inspired aesthetic, combining natural limestone, granitic sand pathways, textured stucco finishes, structured lawns, and layered Mediterranean-style planting to create a property that feels both elevated and deeply connected to the land.At the heart of the project sits a resort-inspired pool and spa zone, framed by custom limestone coping and crazy paving, Blue Gum Wavy pool tiles, and expansive entertaining areas designed for year-round use. The adjoining alfresco pavilion features a custom outdoor kitchen, retractable awnings, heating, ceiling fans, and integrated dining and lounge spaces, creating a seamless extension of the home for entertaining across every season.Beyond the central entertaining spaces, the landscape unfolds into a series of connected lifestyle zones including fire pit areas, terraced gardens, orchard planting, raised vegetable beds, preserving and potting spaces, and informal gravel pathways that encourage movement throughout the property. Existing stone retaining walls and mature trees have been thoughtfully retained and integrated into the new design language, preserving the established character of the site while elevating its overall functionality and experience.
