Landscape Design and Architecture MITCHAM
A considered landscape transformation designed to honour the heritage character of this Melbourne home while introducing contemporary outdoor living.
The brief was to retain the significant existing tree, respect the home’s era, and integrate a pool and garden that felt inherently connected to the architecture. Street appeal was equally important, with the front garden redesigned to strengthen presence while remaining sympathetic to the original façade.
A Pool That Belongs
The raised concrete pool was detailed with an Old Reds brick veneer to reflect the home’s existing brickwork, ensuring material continuity rather than contrast. A planted moat softens the elevated form, weaving foliage into the architecture and reducing visual bulk.
Bluestone crazy paving coping and elevated pads reinforce the heritage palette, while 1000mm x 600mm bluestone steppers set within lawn create a refined connection through the garden. A 1.2m glass pool fence maintains compliance without interrupting sightlines.
Crafted for Performance & Longevity
Structural refinements — including the replacement of a timber post with steel — ensure durability. Irrigated garden beds with integrated drainage support long-term plant health, while black steel edging introduces subtle contemporary definition.
Designed for Every Season
The planting palette was curated for year-round presence. As one species recedes, another emerges — ensuring texture, structure and foliage remain consistent throughout the seasons.
The result is a landscape that respects history while confidently embracing modern outdoor living.
